Lent begins with
Ash Wednesday. This day begins a humble season in which we pray,
fast and offer alms. Lent lasts for 40 days and is often compared
to a journey because Lent calls us to be changed by our prayers,
fasting and almsgiving. We choose to “fast” from foods,
habits or actions that are not good for us and add attitudes, actions
and goals that will help us grow in faith, love and hope. But these
changes don’t have to be just for these 40 days. Part of our
fast includes recognizing how we might be transformed by living
these challenges.
Our worship space will be the most noticeable change during Lent.
See how empty it is! Often the baptism font is emptied to remind
us of Jesus time in the desert and our own “desert”
journey of Lent. Vestments change to purple and the beginning of
our liturgies may change. Notice how the “Alleluia”
is absent. Evening Prayer and a Communal Reconciliation Service
are added to our liturgy schedule; and service opportunities are
available through the Rice Bowls, Brown Bag projects and Our Hearts
Are in Your Hands. What else do you notice? Look! Listen!

Lent is a perfect time to embark on a mission. It provides specially

enhance this time like nothing else.
We will not only be Our Lady of the Lake parishioners. We are
God's people. We are washed and welcomed through the waters of
Baptism. We come together to proclaim and share God's Word and
stories of salvation. We celebrate beign One Body through the
Eucharist. As we begin a new parish, Fr. Tom Dragga will lead
us in examining our new relationships with one another and how
we can be a stronger Catholic presence in the area and the world.
The Mission will be for ALL ages so bring your children,
your family and your friends. All are welcome!
