Church Tour - Baptismal Font
One cannot miss the Baptismal Font at the south entry door. It is here that the journey of a Christian begins, as we are reminded each time we enter the Church. At a funeral, the ritual begins at this same Font as we recall the moment of Baptism and entry into the Catholic community, and now the entry into eternal life.
Each time we enter the Church, we bless ourselves with the water of Baptism at this font, or in the smaller fonts at the side doors, and are reminded of our Baptism.
The font is made of Botticino marble, imported from Italy, originally for the Communion rail in the Church. The shape of the Font, eight sides, represents the day of resurrection, traditionally considered the “eighth day” of creation.
